02CREATE for Children & Teenagers · Ages 11-18
Art is the subject.Thinking is the skill.
At CREATE, young people learn to draw, design, build and make - but the real learning goes further. They develop the confidence to start, to stay with a problem, to learn from mistakes and to turn an idea of their own into something real.

What a session looks like
Small groups.Real materials.Proper teaching.Room to think.
Sessions are practical and purposeful. A student might be drawing, building a structure that has to carry weight, developing a product concept, sculpting in clay or taking an idea from sketchbook to finished outcome. Skills and techniques are explicitly taught, but students are also given enough freedom to make decisions, test ideas and discover their own solutions.
Groups are deliberately small so Helen can teach, question, demonstrate and work alongside each student rather than simply supervise an activity.

01Creative thinking & Design Technology
Imagine it. Design it.Build it. Test it.Change it.
Young people take ideas through a genuine creative process: from first thought and sketch to prototype, testing and refinement. Projects can combine design, making, communication and presentation, helping students understand that the first version is rarely the final one - and that improvement is part of creativity, not evidence of failure.

02Creative problem-solving & independent thinking
What elsecould it be?
Open-ended briefs, visual puzzles and design challenges encourage students to question the obvious, generate alternatives and explain the thinking behind their choices.
The aim is not to guess the answer Helen wants. It is to develop an idea they can genuinely call their own - and the confidence to stand behind it.

03Art, craft & making
Hands in.Imagination on.
Drawing, painting, clay, collage, mixed media, paper engineering and practical making with real materials. Technique matters, and it is taught properly. But technical skill is used as a foundation for imagination rather than as an end in itself.

04GCSE & A-Level portfolio support
Develop the idea.Strengthen the process.Present the thinking.
One-to-one support for GCSE and A-Level Art, Graphics and related creative coursework, as well as portfolios for foundation and further study.
Helen’s experience as a Head of Department and Sixth Form tutor means support can focus on the areas students often find hardest: developing an idea beyond the obvious, showing meaningful experimentation, refining outcomes and making the creative journey visible.

Creativity is morethan a subject. It is a way of thinking.
A young person does not need to arrive believing they are ‘creative’. They need the right challenge, skilled guidance and enough encouragement to discover what they can do.
Tell me a littleabout your child.
Their age, what they enjoy, what they find difficult and what you hope they will gain from CREATE are all useful places to begin. I’ll come back to you personally.
